Dave Gambrill Talks About His Role As A Business Coach and How He’s Working With Tony Robbins and Dean Graziosi

1. Give us a brief background of who you are for those that don’t know.

My name is Dave Gambrill and I help people unleash their awesome through executive coaching, corporate training, and leadership consulting. I also help people in the same field successfully launch and scale their online presence. I’ve been married 25 years this November and have 3 sons.

2. What’s your role as a business coach?  What do you help your clients achieve?

As a business coach I help people find clarity and uncover the next steps they should execute on their success path.

3. How did you go about this career path?

I ended up in this area after working in corporate jobs for 20 years. I have experience in the military, major league sports and entertainment, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare so I bring a unique perspective to the table. I discovered that I prefer working for myself, on my own schedule, without the corporate constraints because it frees me to be the person I need to be to best help my clients.

4. Tell us about your role with the John Maxwell Team.

I’m a Founding Partner and Executive Director for the John Maxwell Team, which is a speaking, training, and coaching education program. Over 20,000 people in over 150 countries have been certified through the program. If you want to do what I do, it’s a pretty good place to start.

5. You run an increasingly popular Facebook group called Digital Marketing Mentorship with Dave Gambrill.  Can you tell us more that?

As I was launching and scaling my successful coaching and consulting practice, many of my colleagues kept asking me how I was doing it. They wanted to know how to get started, the best practices for building an email list, how to setup a landing page, etc. Since I’ve been selling online since 1995, most of that stuff came naturally to me but I realized that wasn’t the case for most people. So, it got to the point where I couldn’t answer individual questions all day, everyday from people so I created the group so I could serve everyone better. As I write this, we have over 1500 members and if you are reading this, feel free to come join us too.

6. What are aspiring and current entrepreneurs and freelancers missing about digital marketing?  How do you help bridge that gap?

Most people think you simply setup a sales page, buy ads, and make millions. I wish it was that easy! People tend to forget that this game is a marathon, not a sprint and that you should focus on building relationships and adding value to people. It’s possible to do that via an email list or FB group, you just have to be prepared to play the long game.

A great place for people to get an idea of how I operate is to check out the blog post from Kevin Kelly called, “1000 True Fans”. That’s the basic framework for how I think about growing my empire.

7. You’ve been advertising something big coming down the road where you’ve partnered with Tony Robbins, Dean Graziosi, etc.  Can you share more about that opportunity?

I’m SO glad I can finally talk about this! Tony, Dean and Russell Brunson just released a powerful course and coaching program that helps people unleash their knowledge, impact people, and get rewarded handsomely in the process. Never before have 3 legends like this partnered to create something so powerful. I’ve had a chance to go through the entire program already – it’s amazing!

9. What is one resource (app, website, software, etc.) in your business that you haven’t shared with your FB group yet that we really should know about?

I’ve shared this a few times, but I think it’s one that will best serve your readers: Trello.
Trello is a project/task management app that keeps you on track with your projects, integrates with most of the other tools you use, and makes it simple to collaborate with others. It’s very, very powerful and you can do most of the things you need using the free version.

10. Favorite book and favorite quote. Go!

I think my favorite book of all time, and the one that had the biggest impact on me leaning into the current path I’m on is “The Four Hour Work Week” by Tim Ferriss.

And my favorite quote, which is not from that book, is from Zig Ziglar who said, “Help enough people get what they want and you can have anything you want.” I use this philosophy every day in my business.

11. If you were just starting your business today, what would be the first 2 or 3 things to market yourself and your product/service?  What would you do differently today vs. what you did to begin yours previously?

If you are just starting you need 3 basic things: an email service, a way to create landing pages and sales pages, and a payment processor. For many people just starting out I encourage them to create an opt-in magnet (like an ebook or video series) to capture emails. I also suggest they create a FB group to go along with it. Between your list and FB group you can keep teaching, sharing, and adding value to your audience which will warm them up for whatever you want to sell. People buy from people they know, like, and trust so you have to work on getting them to that point.

12. What’s really killing it for you as a marketing channel today?

Email. I’m still active on FB, Instagram, YouTube, etc. but my main call to action on those platforms is for people to join my email list. FB Messenger audiences are also getting some good traction.
